December 8, 2011
Dear Classmates,
I am writing to send best wishes for the Holiday Season, and to ask for your help, but first a pop quiz….. What do Edythe Heyman and Heather Haaga have in common? Congratulations if you knew that both are honorary classmates, our first and our most recent honorary classmates. But, did you also know that both have contributed to Class Dues this year? The good news is that Mrs. Heyman (Bill’s Mom) and Heather along with 127 other classmates are helping to keep us afloat by paying Class Dues. The even better news is that 25 classmates have joined the Big Bug Club. The bad news is that 600 others have not paid dues….. yet. So I am writing to ask for your help. The Class pays for the Princeton Alumni Weekly (PAW) subscriptions, dues for the Alumni Council, costs to maintain the website, and a small subsidy for class events. Class Dues are tax deductible because of the educational nature of our activities. Reunions unfortunately are not thought of as charitable events by the IRS so the cost of reunions is covered from a separate account.
So, to make a long story short, please pay your Class Dues. Official Class Dues are $50.00. If possible, join the Big Bug Club for a gift of $200.00 (a Big Bug Hug exemption costs more). Here’s the point: please send money. Checks should be made payable to “Princeton Class of 1970” and sent to: Jack Wilmer, 504 Malcolm Place, Alexandria, VA 22302, or pay online at the Class of 1970 website http://www.princeton1970.org/ through our PayPal account (signup NOT required; a credit card is all you need). Our federal tax ID number is 222575679.
Community Service Project Update for 2012 From Ralph Binder, Board Member, Princeton Internships in Civic Service
For the summer of 2012 our great Class of '70 is sponsoring 11 internships for undergraduates in a variety of non-profit institutions in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York and Baltimore. The experiences are varied from development work for a museum, to quality assurance work in a hospital to developing community based programs for an underserved population. Several of us are involved and get tremendous reward from seeing how much Princeton students can contribute to our society even as undergraduates. We do need to open up more opportunities as the demand from the undergraduate body is quite strong. As many of you know we do this as part of the PICS (Princeton Internships for Civic Service) program. It would be great if you have a favorite non-profit that would benefit from the help of a Princeton student or if you could make a donation to help support the internships the Class of '70 has already begun. All donations will go directly to student stipends, and if you do send in funds indicate that it is for the Class of '70 Internships. If you'd like more information go to the website: http://www.princetoninternships.org/index.html, contact Ralph E Binder, ralbin@optonline.net, or PICS directly, Princeton Internships in Civic Service, PO Box 261, Princeton, NJ 08542
Annual Giving, Drew Davis, Class Annual Giving Agent
While you are at it, please don’t forget Annual Giving (how could you?). The class has a long and proud tradition of supporting Princeton. Class Agent Maj. Gen. Drew Davis (USMC Retired) set a class record last year in his first year on the job. 421 classmates contributed last year. Participation is very important so please give something, anything, to support Drew, the Class of 1970, and Princeton. You can make a gift on line at www.princeton.edu/ag , call the 24-hour gift line at 800.258.5421, or mail your contribution to: Princeton University, Annual Giving, Box 5357, Princeton, N. J. 08543-5357. Contributions to Annual Giving are also tax deductible.
Upcoming Events
Our Mid-Winter Class Dinner will be on Friday, February 24, at the Nassau Club, with thanks again to Jack Wilmer for arranging the event. This is Alumni Weekend at Princeton which includes numerous forums and athletic events as well as the Service of Remembrance which is an opportunity to reflect on the lives of our dear friends and classmates who are no longer with us. The Alumni Association has reserved a few rooms at the Nassau Inn for $135.00 per night. If you would like a room please make your reservation as soon as you can and mention “Alumni Day Room Block for 2012” when you call.

Our 42nd Reunion is May 31 – June 3. Reunion Chairman For Life Bruce Millman bmillman@pipeline.com and Reunion Finance Chair For Life Mike Camp mcamp@nwcriterion.com are again in charge. Off-year reunions are just as much fun as major reunions, and provide a good chance to get to know a smaller group of classmates very well. We typically have an early arrivals dinner at a club on Thursday night, a class dinner on Friday, and something informal following the P-Rade and before the fireworks on Saturday. Join us!
Finally, stay in touch, send information for Class Notes in the PAW to our scribe John MacColl jamaccoll@comcast.net, and check out Gregg Lange’s column in the PAW online.
Best to all,
Bill Neidig
