Honorary Class Members

By long tradition, honorary membership in Princeton classes is accorded to individuals whose contributions, influence, or character are deemed worthy of association with such an august assembly. Thus, we are pleased to count as Honorary Members of the Class of 1970 (and thereby subject to all privileges, dunning dues notices, collective assignations, suspensions, and probations.):

  • Carol Rigolot- former Assistant Dean of the College and Assistant Dean of the Faculty, current shepherd of the Council for the Humanities (a.k.a. Executive Director). Francophile Extraordinaire, Carol was resplendent in her Bug Blazer at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, sharing those same hallowed halls with the 1996 Cezanne Exhibit.
  • James McPherson- member of the Princeton History Department, noted author of
Battle Cry Freedom, the history of the Civil War that proved to be scholarly, popular, and a pleasure to read.
  • Ernest Gordon- former Dean of the Chapel during the era when we would all eagerly join him for coffee in Murray-Dodge.
  • Robert F. Goheen '40- president of the University during our undergraduate years, "Bogo" made the bowtie de rigeur in many a wardrobe.
  • George Heyman- chair of parental fund-raising for many years, distinguished leader of the business and philanthropic community in New York City, all round good-guy, and father of our esteemed classmate William.
  • Jonathan Belcher- our only post-humous award, in partial recognition of this distinguished Royal Governor of the Province of New Jersey's magnanimous willingness to decline having Nassau Hall named after him. Also for his trend setting coiffure.
